Pizza's American Journey: From Ethnic Niche to National Staple

Pizza's rise in America mirrors the broader story of Italian immigration. Initially confined to Italian-American communities, pizza gained nationwide popularity post-World War II as returning soldiers sought the Italian flavors they had enjoyed overseas. By the 1950s, pizza had become a ubiquitous American staple, thanks in part to television appearances like the 'I Love Lucy' episode featuring pizza, cementing its place in American culture.

"Nice guy runs this place. I’m happy they’re still in business. It’s not far off I-95, and it’s great not having to get off in New Haven. If you’re driving from Boston to NYC, this is a perfect place to stop. This photo was taken in 2018, just after they opened. The pizza was a little heavy on the cheese, but other than that it great."
