From the Community

Jam City Pizza has drawn steady praise for doing something regional and specific very well: Detroit-style pizza with a deeply caramelized edge and dense, topping-laden slices.

Operating from a cellar space on Treadwell Street, the team led by chef Tyler Demora layers bold sauces and unexpected combinations like truffle ricotta and artichoke-truffle toppings that reviewers say linger on the palate.

Portions are described as generous and perfectly portioned for hungry diners; one guest observed, "If an entire pizza could be looked at as a band, then the sauce is the lead singer and frontman," reflecting how the sauce ties the whole pie together (Tom LaTulipe).

Another reviewer noted the structure and flavor work: "The crispy Detroit style crust, and the masterful combination of flavors concocted by chef Tyler Demora make this pizzeria a must try" (Tobias Olsen).

Beyond the pies, customers call out simple but satisfying sides β€” fries and salads β€” and praise the friendly, quick service at the pizza window.

The cellar’s low-key music and communal feel make the spot a practical choice for groups and solo diners alike, while catering bookings show the kitchen can scale up without losing the signature crunch and balanced flavors.

"It's a bold idea to make Detroit style pizzas in the pizza capital of the country. New Haven is the benchmark for pizza perfection. In a city that has summited the peak of pizza mountain, a new beast has been born. One that honers the heritage of Italian pizza while being the antithesis of Americana. Jam City Pizza is the name of this monster. The crispy Detroit style crust, and the masterful combination of flavors concocted by chef Tyler Demora make this pizzeria a must try. Head down to the cellar on treadwell and enjoy some music or have a laugh with friends. The leftovers I had did not survive the night."

"Just delicious - fantastic. I'd gush over every individual element but it'll get too wordy. If an entire pizza could be looked at as a band, then the sauce is the lead singer and frontman. Serving size is perfect. At first glance I thought I was going to be left a little unfulfilled, but it's truly just. right. I feel incredibly privileged to work in the same lot, but even if I didn't I'd have no problem driving the 30 minutes at least once a month."
